Pessary

Due to the rise of life expectancy, dysfunction of pelvic floor, like prolapses, are becoming more and more an important problem for women.

Surgical intervention is not always suggested for all patients. That is why, perineal rehabilitation is considered a valid help to solve or reduce symptoms linked to prolapses.

In case of  serious prolapses (2° or 3° degree) a really important support can be given by the use of Pessaries.

WHAT ARE PESSARIES:

Pessaries are medical devices, generally made of rubber or silicone, that can be introduced in the vagina and used in case of urogenital prolapses.

Pessaries are not therapeutic devices, but they allow to limit patient’s discomfort.

These instruments can represent a very effective tool when the surgical intervention is contraindicated and this is true in particular for the following cases:

  • rectocele
  • cystocele (bladder prolapse)

I-RING

One of the most common pessaries it the ring-form pessary.

This pessary has to be inserted by the gynaecologist  in the vagina between the posterior vaginal fornix and the pubic bone. Commonly, it should be substituted by the physician after six months in order to avoid decubitus wounds or infections. Generally, a part from specific cases, it is well tolerated by women’s body.

I-Ring is primarily used for a mild first-degree uterine prolapse or a cystocele.

Easy for folding, facilitating insertion and removal by durable and elastic silicone with two durometers at folding section.

It comes with or without support; available in 10 sizes.

The new generation of Cubic-shaped pessaries are an alternative to the ring ones, in particular for young women.

Easy for folding, facilitating insertion and removal, the string loop is designed for easy retrieval.

The concavity of the surface creates an action of depression allowing a perfect cohesion on the vaginal surface (like a suction cup); in this way the pessary keeps its position even in case of weak pelvic floor, unable to support the ring pessary.

It is especially use to prevent worsening of the patient’s clinical trial, even before surgical interventions to rise the circulatory system of tissues, to postpone surgical interventions and to easy the rectal and bladder emptying in case of rectocele or cystocele.

Very often women suffering of minor prolapses, even if they are young, avoid any effort or hard physical activities (training, tracking, running, etc.). I-cube is easy to use and it can be inserted and removed autonomously by the woman who can also use it just as a prevention device during her training.

For example, for sportswomen, it allows to make athletic movements without worsen the descendus, avoiding damages of the pelvic floor ligaments. It can be a valid support also for women performing hard working activities.

It does not present serious contraindications, a part from infections and the incapacity of the woman to insert the pessary correctly.
